Data protection regulations

1. General information

The protection of your privacy is of utmost importance to us. We adhere strictly to data protection regulations, in particular the German Data Protection Act (BDSG) and the German Telemedia Act (TMG), when collecting, processing and using your personal data. In the following, we would like to inform you about which personal data we collect and for what purposes so that you know what personal data is acquired when you visit our Websites and use the services offered there, and what happens to this data.

As a general rule, we only collect personal data if it is necessary to provide the specific service.
You can visit our site without stating any personal details. This data shall ensure that the users are always kept up-to-date with their learning outcomes and learning progress and enable Langenscheidt to offer users content commensurate with their respective level of learning. The learning-level data can only be viewed by the respective user or partners of Langenscheidt, e.g. of the virtual classroom, programming and certification. In no event shall learning-level data be disclosed to other third parties.
Where necessary in order to perform the services offered on our Websites, we may collect usage data, such as date and duration of the access, during your visit. We shall collect information transmitted by you at various times. All data shall be stored electronically. To the extent that such is legally permissible, we shall store other data collected or received by us from third parties along with your data.

3. Use of personal data

3.1 Mandatory fields and voluntary information

Please note that, where data is collected on the Websites, some fields are mandatory. These are marked with an asterisk; it is necessary to enter data in these fields otherwise your request will not be processed.
All other details are voluntary. Where details are entered in the other fields, these will be evaluated for statistical purposes and to improve our range of offers.

3.2 Purpose limitation

Any personal data submitted to us shall be used for the purposes intended by you. These purposes include maintaining your customer account, authenticating you on the Websites, processing your order, running competitions, handling your request and sending you our newsletter.

3.3 Use for other purposes, in particular for advertising purposes

Where you have expressly given your consent for us to use your data for advertising purposes or we are authorised by law to do so, we shall also use said data to send you newsletters containing current information about our products, services, competitions and offers by post and/or e-mail.

4. Forwarding of personal data to third parties

Your data shall not be forwarded to third parties unless we are legally obligated (e.g. request by an investigative authority) or authorised (e.g. within the context of order data processing) to do so, or you have expressly consented to have your data forwarded to third parties.
Data shall be forwarded to third parties, in particular, where this is necessary to fulfil and execute the contract. For example, your payment details shall be forwarded to the credit institute through which payment is to be made for the purpose of processing the payment. Such third parties shall naturally also be obligated to protect your data and only to use it for the specific purpose. In addition, they shall also be obligated to treat the data in accordance with these Data Protection Regulations and applicable law.

5. Deletion and blocking of your data

Your data shall be deleted as soon as your request has been processed. Where we are required by law to store data for a longer period, said data shall be stored within this context.

Where your data is subject to statutory retention obligations, the data shall merely be blocked for any further use.
If you do not want us to send you any more advertising material, your data shall be stored internally on a so-called Robinson list. This data is then blocked and we shall not send you any further advertising material.

7. Data security

The personal data disclosed to us via the Websites is transmitted strictly in encrypted form in accordance with current technological standards. We apply technical and organisational measures to protect our Websites and other systems against loss, destruction, access, alteration and distribution of your data by unauthorised persons.

8. Use of cookies

In order to be able to make your visit to our Websites more attractive and to enable the use of certain functions, we use so-called "cookies" on various pages. These are small text files containing configuration information that are stored on your terminal. 10. Creating pseudonymous user profiles for web analysis

The following information on the creation of pseudonymous user profiles shall apply for the Websites, insofar as and to the extent that the individual Websites use the relevant analytical tools:

If you access a subpage of our Websites that contains a social plugin, your browser establishes a direct connection to the Google / Facebook / Twitter / AddThis servers. The content of the plugin is transferred directly to your browser from the respective provider and incorporated into the web page. By incorporating the plugin, the providers receive the information that your browser has accessed that particular page of our Website, even if you do not have a profile with the respective social network or are currently not logged in. AddThis stores a cookie on your terminal to identify your browser. This information (including your IP address) is transmitted directly from your browser to a server of the respective provider in the US and stored there. AddThis uses the data to create anonymous user profiles, which serve as a basis for offering visitors to websites featuring AddThis plugins personalised and interest-related advertising content.
If you are logged in on one of the social networks, the respective provider can link the visit to our Website directly to your profile on Facebook / Google+ / Twitter. If you interact using the plugins, for example, by pressing the "Like" button or the "+1" button or the "tweet" button or submit a comment, the relevant information is also transmitted directly to a server of the respective provider and stored there.
